Nancy says mixed media will get you out of trouble when you hit roadblocks on a painting, whether it is one in progress or one in the closet that you didn't like.
She sometimes uses chalk pastels, which work nicely on watercolor paper, as well as canvas that is underpainted with acrylic.
At times, she decoupages tissue paper to watercolor paper, lets it dry, then paints the surface with watercolor. Lastly she adds the chalk pastel for her final touches.
Nancy loves all types of chalk pastels. She's not married to one brand - she finds colors in all brands to use in her paintings.
She will work several more hours on this painting before it is complete. She is not blending on the canvas, but adding each stroke of color individually.
