October plein air painting day

At Cornerstone Sonoma, the sun was shining, the air warm and inviting, and we were ready to paint!

We walked around scoping out areas to set up our easels. There was so much to take in. We all gravitated to the water lily pond and started painting. All too soon, it was time to pack up and head home, but we plan to go back again. It was a day well-spent with wonderful paintings started.

Artist Demo with Roger Renn

Roger Renn - Self-Portrait
This is the first word that comes to mind about Roger Renn. He was extremely enthusiastic about his sketching process while traveling and he brought his collection of portable plein air painting tools and products to show us.

So many fabulous ideas! Roger had great tips and tricks to share - not the least of which was using the sectioned bottom of a laundry detergent bottle for a traveling or disposable watercolor palette.

Roger put us all at ease during his presentation. His friendly demeanor encouraged everyone to ask him questions. He was patient and thorough with his answers.

Roger obviously uses every item he showed us and explained how and where he would use various tools.

Roger brought a number of his small plein air works for us to see. They were wonderful!
