Plein air painting at the Benicia Waterfront

Benicia CA waterfont

Nothing beats the San Francisco Bay for painting and drawing inspiration...fresh air and palm trees swaying in the sea breeze. Our May plein air painting day at the Benicia Waterfront was lovely, with perfect weather and great company!

From watercolor to acrylic to gouache, lots of paint hit the canvas to convey several different scenic views. Join us for our June plein air painting day at the Martinez Waterfront Park and Marina - click here for details.

May meeting recap - the craftier side of mixed media

I was thrilled to be able to share my wonderful world of creative products and techniques with the group at our May meeting!

We had a great conversation about the beauty (and therapy) of all kinds of creative expression, and how much fun it can be to blur that line in the sand between "art" and "craft."

As a professional designer for the craft industry, I get to work with a wide variety of products that both artists and crafters enjoy using. My own artistic style leans more toward mixed media, fiber art and abstract work, so I'm wont to combine anything and everything when it comes to tools, materials and substrates.

Here's a linked list of just some of the products I shared. No matter what your artistic pleasure, there's something here for just about anyone. Try it, you might just like it!

Our day at the Concord Art & Wine Walk

People were met, art was sold, wine was tasted, music was heard...all in all, it was a great day at the 2nd Annual Concord Art & Wine (and Beer!) Walk, a fundraising event sponsored by the local AAUW.

Several of our  members had tables and panels full of their wares, from notecards to silk scarves to giclĂ©es and original paintings. We sketched and painting and even did some sunprinting on fabric.

Can't wait for next year!
